About Us

IHCD is an international non-profit educational and design organization committed to advancing the role of design in expanding opportunity and enhancing experience for people of all ages and abilities through excellence in design. IHCD collaborates on projects that balance expertise in accessible laws, codes, standards and best-practices in Universal / Inclusive Design along with research to address new frontiers and gaps in the field. Our human centered design focus prompts us to ensure that people with the broadest set of abilities, whether sensory, physical or brain based are engaged in the design process. A design that works well for users on the edges of the ability spectrum works well for all users.

Our core beliefs

- Design is powerful and profoundly influences our daily lives and our sense of confidence, comfort, and control.

- Variation in human ability is ordinary, not special, and affects most of us for some part of our lives.

We are located blocks from City Hall and the State House at 200 Portland Street, conveniently centered in one of the most accessible public transit sites in Boston. To learn more about IHCD and the projects we are involved in please visit our website www.humancentereddesign.org
